About Paradromics
Paradromics builds brain-computer interfaces that let people control computers and restore speech using only their thoughts.
Founded in 2015 by Matt Angle out of Stanford, the company has spent a decade developing the Connexus BCI, a fully implantable wireless device that reads directly from individual neurons. It currently transmits neural data at over 200 bits per second, the highest data rate in the industry and nearly 25x faster than Neuralink.
The company has raised $175M, including $20M in grants from DARPA and the NIH. In November 2025, the FDA approved Paradromics to begin human clinical trials focused on restoring speech, making them the first company to receive that specific clearance. A preliminary human implant was completed at the University of Michigan in June 2025. Chronic implants begin in early Q2 2026.

The race to connect the human brain to computers is no longer theoretical. Paradromics is leading it on the metric that matters most: data rate.

The Opportunity
Brain-computer interfaces spent decades as a science fair project. That era is over. Neuralink patients are browsing the internet and playing video games with their thoughts. The FDA is signing off on human trials. The moment everyone said was coming is here.
The market unfolds in three layers. The first is clinical, giving people with ALS, spinal cord injuries, and stroke their voice and movement back. That alone is a $100B opportunity, and it is where Paradromics is focused first. From there it expands into brain health, mental health monitoring, closed-loop therapy, sensory restoration, a range analysts peg at $25B to $500B. Beyond that is consumer: AR/VR, thought-driven devices, AI-augmented cognition. No one has put a ceiling on it because no one credibly can.
The entire stack lives or dies on data rate. Clicking a button takes 1 bit per second. Restoring natural speech takes 100. Controlling a robotic arm with precision takes 10,000. Full sensory immersion takes a billion. More bandwidth unlocks more applications, more applications mean more data, and more data means better AI models. The company that gets there first with the highest-resolution brain data will own something that has never existed before.
Why It’s Working
Paradromics has hit every major milestone ahead of schedule and ahead of the competition.
On data rate, no one else is in the same conversation. Their device transmits over 200 bits of brain data per second, a benchmark that no other BCI company has come close to matching. That number matters because it directly determines what the device can do and how valuable the data it collects becomes over time. More signal means better outcomes, better models, and a wider range of applications.

The hardware is designed to last. The electrodes are thinner than a human hair, rated for over 10 years of use, and have maintained stable recordings in animal studies for nearly four years straight. Longevity matters because the longer the device works, the more data it captures and the harder it is for a competitor to catch up.
The FDA cleared Paradromics to begin human trials in November 2025. Three major medical centers are participating: UC Davis, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the University of Michigan. First long-term human implants begin in early Q2 2026.
The business makes money three ways: selling devices, licensing the technology for expanded applications, and selling access to the neural data they collect to AI developers building the next generation of brain-focused models. Every implant makes the dataset more valuable.
The team is the right team. Founder Matt Angle spent a decade at Stanford building this technology before starting the company. The CMO is a practicing neurosurgeon. DARPA and the NIH have put $20M into the company. That is not a participation trophy. The government funds what it plans to use.
Why We’re Interested (LFG POV)
We have been following Paradromics for several years and met with the team multiple times. Two weeks ago we visited their facility in Austin for a firsthand look at their expanding operation. What we saw reinforced our conviction. This team is executing.

Neuralink and Paradromics are the two companies defining what high-bandwidth BCI looks like at scale. We have made three (3) Neuralink investments. This is our entry into the other half of that equation.
The Data Rate Lead Is Real. At 200+ bits per second, Paradromics has demonstrated data rates that are best in class by a significant margin. More data means better AI models and more applications. The company that builds the richest brain dataset wins, and Paradromics is doing that now before the market has fully formed.
The Timing Is Right. Paradromics is entering human trials at the exact moment BCI is becoming a household concept. The device that doctors and hospitals adopt first tends to stay first. Getting in the clinic now with the best hardware is an advantage that compounds.
The Data is the Business. Beyond selling devices, Paradromics is built to license its neural data and AI models to the labs and companies that need them. Think pharma companies developing neurological therapies, AI labs training next-generation models, and research institutions studying cognition. As AI continues to advance, high-resolution human brain data becomes one of the most valuable datasets on earth. Paradromics is positioned to own that.
If You Believed in Neuralink, You Already Get This. LFG invested in Neuralink twice because we believe BCI is one of the defining platforms of the next two decades. Neuralink is proving the category to the world. Paradromics is the other company building it at the same level. This is our entry into the full picture.
